Hopefully, you have done some research by this point as to what this company does and what their mission statement is. You have probably been told many great things by the hiring manager. The truth is, you may have to do some extra digging to find out what it would really be like to work for this company. Searching for any reviews by past or current employees or even customers can help add another perspective.
Growth Potential
The values of a company could be a clue as to how you and your skill sets are perceived. If you work for a sales-heavy business, chances are if you aren’t in sales, you won’t be valued the same as the people “making the company money” even though your role may be just as, if not more valuable to the overall success of the company.
No matter how young or old you are, you deserve the opportunity to grow with a company at a pace that is proportionate to your work ethic and output for the company. Don’t allow yourself to become complacent just because your employer doesn’t see your full potential.
Travel/Commute
These things may seem like they are just part of the job, but the truth is, if you can’t handle the commute or travel required for a certain position, don’t put yourself through the stress. Keep in mind how much time it takes you to keep up with all of your necessary tasks and make sure this new position doesn’t conflict with them.
Work-Life Balance
Keep in mind the overall happiness of yourself and the ones around you when considering a new position. Ask yourself if you can fit this job around your life, or if you will have to fit your life around this new job. Your answer is a great indication as to whether or not you will be able to achieve a healthy work-life balance in this new role.
